Even if they have exceptional ageing potential, we recommend tasting Sauternes from their earliest youth.
They do not have tannic astringency and their aromatic complexity is therefore fabulous!

The very high quality of Cos d'Estournel's recent vintages is impressive, placing it undoubtedly among the first great classified growths of the Médoc. A single qualifier comes to mind when we think of Cos d'Estournel: monumental, for its wines as well as for its cellar.

    See the data sheet

The 2010 vintage in the press:

Vinous (N. Martin - March 2018): 97/100 "The 2010 Cos d'Estournel has long been my preference over the 2009. That vintage kowtowed to the crowd and yes, to critics. The 2010 is less compromising but more intellectual. It has a scintillating, pixelated bouquet with intense black fruit, asphalt and mint aromas - vivid and bright, much more focused and certainly less flmaboyant than the 2009. The palate is medium-bodied with a huge chassis; a Saint-Estèphe clearly built for the long-term with enormous grip and enthralling tension. As before, there is a liberal sprinkling of white pepper towards the finish and is exceptionnally long. The 2010 is the finest Cos d'Estournel until the more finessed 2016 comes along. It is a deeply impressive wine but it will appeal more to those that prefer classic Bordeaux to one boasting tons of fruit, as pleasurable as that might be."

Trotanoy shines through the richness and elegance of its bouquet in small and great vintages. This regularity, which allows him to be compared sometimes advantageously to his older brother Pétrus, has built his reputation among amateurs all over the world. Moueix property.

The 2012 vintage in the press:

Vinous (N. Martin - February 2020): 94+/100 "The 2010 Trotanoy is surly and backward on the nose, clearly a Pomerol demanding extended cellaring. The palate is medium-bodied, its bold tannic chassis just beginning to soften. This has a superb bead of acidity threaded through the bell pepper-tinged, tertiary black fruit with a gentle but insistent grip on the finish. This is clearly a Pomerol of real pedigree and I adore its truffly aftertaste. Excellent."

With today 11 ha, the vineyard of Valandraud allows Mr. Thunevin to tighten his selections for the great wine and his second, Virginie de Valandraud (there is a 3rd, Clos Badon, and even a 4th wine!). Rich in colour, always delicious with an elegant tannic structure, Virginie de Valandraud makes those who think that second wines have no soul lie.

The 2010 vintage in the press:

Vinous (S. Tanzer - July 2013): 91/100 "Bright ruby-red. Blackberry, black raspberry, licorice, mocha and espresso on the sexy nose and palate. Plush, sweet, creamy and superripe but with adequate acidity, subtle crushed-stone minerality and substancial sweet tannins giving shape to this seamless wine. Excellent for this bottling. With 24 hours in the recorked bottle, this showed lovely ripe, harmonious acidity. Somehow, this wine shows more consistent ripeness than many second wines from top Medoc châteaux."

An ultra-refined great wine, with a mineral tension that is out of the ordinary in Bordeaux, the fruit of the great terroir of the Côte Pavie, but also of the complicity of Mr Nicolas Thienpont and Mr Stéphane Derenoncourt since 1994.

The 2010 vintage in the press:

Vinous (A. Galloni - December 2019): 97/100 "A towering, statuesque wine, the 2010 Pavie-Macquin is distinguished by its vertical explosiviness and soaring intensity. Red cherry jam, plums and dried flowers are some of the many aromas and flavors that open up as the 2010 gains breadth over time naturally, the 2010 is still a very young wine."

Advised by Mr. Derenoncourt, Clos Fourtet regularly and unobtrusively demonstrates that the upper part of the Saint-Émilion plateau can produce wines as great as the Ausone or Pavie hillsides. Sobriety, depth, finesse and intensity are exemplary.

The 2010 vintage in the press:

En Magnum (2022): 97/100 “It takes time for the immense personality of Clos Fourtet to reveal itself, that of a deep, sappy grand cru with imperious minerality and impressive length. Certainly one of the great successes of this tasting”.

Vinous (N. Martin - February 2020): 95/100 "The 2010 Clos Fourtet has a well defined and focused bouquet with tarry black fruit, black pepper and tobacco notes, almost equidistant between Left and Right Bank in style. The palate is medium-bodied  with firm tannins, supple and underpinned by a fine bead of acidity. Very harmonious towards the finish with well-integrated oak. this is a superb Saint-Émilion."

On a subsoil of deep gravel (alluvium of the Isle), Figeac has logically opted for a grape variety more Medoc than Libourne: 70% Cabernet (half Sauvignon and half Franc), 30% Merlot. Hence a naturalness, a freshness and a distinction unparalleled in Saint-Emilion. The latest 2022 classification has rightly corrected the omission of the previous one by granting Figeac the title of 1er grand cru classé A.

The 2010 vintage in the press:

Vinous (N. Martin - October 2021): 98/100 "The 2010 Figeac has a deep hue. The nose is quite introverted ar first, with dark berry fruit, incense, touches of fig and mulberry. The palate is beautifully balanced with a fine bead of acidity, gorgeous pure fruit, mulberry and dark plum, gentle considering the vintage. This 2010 has softened in the last couple of years, gaining depth towards the finish. Very persistent - this is just beginning to show what it is capable of."
