A talented and perfectionist winemaker, Denis Durantou, at the service of a great terroir on the edge of the church of Pomerol between Lafleur and Clinet. L'Église-Clinet is one of the most subtle Pomerols in terms of its aromatic precision, fine grain and satiny texture. Mr. Durantou passed away far too soon in 2020, but fortunately he has three daughters who are united and determined to continue their father's work.

The 2014 vintage is rated 94/100 by N. Martin "The 2014 L'Eglise-Clinet has a very beautiful nose, superior to that of the other Pomerols in this flight. It is fresher, more vigorous and has aromas of wild strawberry, cranberry, liquorice and cedar. It gains in definition in the glass. [...] This is the quintessential wine of the late Denis Durantou, who still has a bright future ahead of him. A second bottle tasted blind seemed a little drier on the finish." (February 2024)

Like Pétrus, Le Pin is 100% Merlot. But if Pétrus has adopted a more classic style in recent years, Le Pin remains a hedonistic wine, often exuberant, sometimes even exotic. And unlike Pétrus, Le Pin is much rarer (500 cases per year).
The 2021 vintage is rated 96/100 by J-M Quarin "Beautiful dark red. The nose is initially a little discreet and smells of ripe fruit. Subtle. Mouth full of tactile detail, with just enough fat in the middle to never leave the palate." (February 2024)

Rated 92/100 by N. MARTIN « The 2020 Côte de Baleau has an attractive bouquet with blackberry, rasberry, dried blood and cedar. Lovely focus here, real class and delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with blackberry, tobacco and graphite, again very well-focused with an engaging, mineral-driven finish that lingers in the mouth. This a very well-crafted Saint-Emilion that will age with style » (December 2022)

The high proportion of Cabernet Franc in the blend (40%) tempers the sun-drenched nature of the terroir (south-facing), and gives the wines an elegant, long-lasting structure. Recent vintages have convinced us that Haut-Simard deserves urgent attention.
Like all Vauthier vineyards (Ausone, La Clotte, Moulin Saint Georges...), Haut-Simard began its conversion to organic farming in 2020.

Rated 90/100 by N. MARTIN «I suggested/hoped that the 2020 Fonroque would display more finesse by the time of bottling, and it seems to have heard my words. With blackberry, briary and light sous-bois scents on the nose, this indeed conveys greater refinement. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly angular tannins, fresh and saline, with a dash of black pepper decorating the finish. A little Medocian in style with decent length, this should age well in bottle.» (December 2022)
