Coralie de Boüard (daughter of Hubert de Boüard, owner of Angélus) has embarked on a new project in Montagne Saint-Émilion. Right from its first vintage (2016), Clos de Boüard is already a success, greedy, fleshy and devilishly seductive (85% Merlot). According to Michel Bettane and Thierry Desseauve, Clos Boüard is “a trusted address for wine lovers”.
The 2017 vintage in the press:
Vinous (Neal Martin - February 2020) : 92/100 “Clos de Boüard 2017 offers delicious aromas of blackberry, brioche and light tobacco on the nose, which prove nicely concentrated. The palate is medium-bodied, with excellent acidity. The texture is velvety and very harmonious, with subtle notes of tar and graphite on the finish. This is an excellent Montagne Saint-Émilion from the de Boüard family. Apogée 2022-2036." (remarkable note for a wine at less than €25.00 a bottle)

The 2016 vintage in the press:
J-M Quarin (February 2019): 90/100 “Dark, intense, beautiful and even deep color. Nose moderately aromatic, fruity, ripe and suave. Caressing on the attack and finely fleshy, the wine develops tasty, refined to the touch and very well balanced. The finish is long, sappy, savory and dense. Very good! A superb Outsider."
Applying the same principles of cultivation and vinification as in Angelus, Hubert de Boüard brought his Château de Lalande de Pomerol to the top of his appellation. Rich and luxuriously aged wines, of incredible charm, with each vintage praised by critics. An exceptional 2017 vintage, of which the tiny production (saved from frost) is only available in magnums.

Noting the extent of the damage (95%) caused by the frost at the end of April 2017 in La Fleur de Boüard, Hubert de Boüard and his daughter Coralie did not give up and decided to pamper the few remaining grapes.
100% Merlot, deep, fleshy, sweet and distinguished, caressing in the middle palate and concluding with a slender and more energetic finish, their superb 2017 is an astonishing success, surely made possible by the tiny harvest (20 hl produced on 40 ha of vines, a tiny yield of 0.5 hl/ha, just one hundredth of a normal harvest!).
And, killing two birds with one stone, they took the opportunity to celebrate their 20th year at La Fleur de Boüard by putting their 2017 only in 1000 numbered magnums specially decorated by the artist Petrusse Reynen.
Second wine of Angelus, made in the same luxurious and distinguished style that has made the reputation and international success of this wine.

The 2020 vintage in the press:
Hachette (Guide 2024): Coup de ♥ “The ample, structured frame, set on silky, melted tannins, stretches with length and voluptuousness.”
Brilliant even in small vintages (1992 was a masterpiece), Angélus has become a world star in 20 years by producing dense, fleshy and superbly velvety wines while remaining distinguished.
Great class!
