Readers will find a voluptuous, extroverted wine that will shine at its brightest at the dinner table. »
Martin : 88-90/100 « The 2023 Clos Floridène Blanc has a lively and well-defined bouquet with yellow fruit, Granny Smith and light stony aromas. Galloni : 92-94/100 « The 2023 Blanc Sec is stellar and also one of the most distinctive whites of the year. Rich, layered and super-expressive, the Blanc Sec possesses exceptional pedigree and structure. Dried apricot, lemon peel, sage and dried flowers build effortlessly in the glass. The 2023 is seriously intense, yet nothing whatsoever is out of place. It is also an absolute steal. Fabulous. »

Quarin : 88/100 « Ample à l'attaque, juteux en milieu de bouche, le vin caresse le palais, épicé et parfumé. Finale agréable, de longueur normale. »
Martin : 87/100 « Light pear and Golden Delicious scents emerge on the nose. It's quite pretty, if not the most complex white that you will find in the Médoc. This classified growth, owned by INRA, has grown considerably since the Institute's researchers decided to apply the results of their most advanced research to it, and the arrival of Mr Derenoncourt as an advisor. In a rather lively and tense style, Couhins is today by its price the best deal among the white classified growths of Pessac-Léognan.

Built on freshness and tension, Esprit de Chevalier distinguishes itself from the appellation's other second wines by its extra smoothness and remarkable aromatic richness (green mango, citrus fruit, white peach...). The development of a third wine is undoubtedly no stranger to this.
Martin : 95-97/100 « The 2023 L'Esprit de Chevalier Blanc offers crisp sea-spray scents on the nose, complemented by Granny Smiths and light kiwi notes. The palate is very well balanced with a keen line of acidity. Notably saline on the entry, it possesses impressive depth, turning quite spicy with touches of white pepper on the persistent finish. This is one of those Deuxième Vins where you think: "Cor blimey...what's the Grand Vin like?" »

Very pale, crystalline colour, aromatic notes of lemon and grapefruit, lively and delicate on the palate, Carbonnieux is by its refined style the most Medoc style of Pessac-Léognan whites.

The Latour-Martillac white wine is aromatic, straightforward and has excellent ageing potential. It is one of the most consistent and interesting wines in the appellation, and holds up formidably well to ageing (10 years or more).

Galloni : 89-91/100 « The 2023 Latour-Martillac Blanc is a tense, steel dry white. Lemon peel, chalk, white pepper, sage, mint and crushed rocks lend brightness and energy. I like the vibrancy here, but I just wish there was a bit more mid-palate creaminess. At this stage, the Blanc is a bit austere. Tasted two times. »More- To keep or to drink:

Based on Sauvignon (with a hint of Semillon), Caillou Blanc has been presented for 50 years as the archetype of Médoc dry white wine: pale colour, between delicate freshness and aromatic distinction (citrus fruits, bitter orange, honeysuckle), never too full or demonstrative. And always reasonably positioned in terms of price.
Martin : 88/100 « The 2023 Caillou Blanc has a pretty bouquet with orchard fruit, touches of orange blossom and grapefruit thanks to the 71% Sauvignon Blanc. The palate is fresh on the entry: green apple mixed with pear and a dab of lemongrass, with decent length. This is very Graves-like this year. Drink it over the next four to five years. »

Known to produce Léognan's most voluminous and expressive white wine, Larrivet Haut-Brion has gained in freshness, precision and aromatic complexity since the arrival of Mr Lemoine (cellar master from Montrose), advised by Mr Derenoncourt, and vinifications in ovoid vats.

Alongside its famous Sauternes, Suduiraut has been producing for 20 years now a dry white wine for gourmets, made from 45-year-old vines and aged entirely in barrels.

Galloni : 94-96/100 « The 2023 Grand Vin Blanc Sec Vieilles Vignes is superb. Lemon confit, marzipan, white flowers, sage, mint and dried flowers all run through this super-expressive, savory dry white. There's real phenolic intensity to the Vieilles Vignes-a rich, deep white for the dinner table. Pretty floral top notes and a kick of tropical fruit brighten the finish. »
Martin : 90-92/100 « The 2023 Suduiraut Vieilles Vignes has a lifted bouquet with scents of orange pith, lemon verbena and light patisserie scents-finely delineated. Il s'achève sur une belle saveur de poire mêlée au bois, sans jamais perdre sa texture délicatement grasse. Une expression générale rarement vue à Pessac Léognan. »
Galloni : 92-94/100 « The 2023 Malartic-Lagravière Blanc is a seriously beautiful wine. Explosive aromatics meld into a core of orchard and citrus fruits. Bright acids pull it all together. I especially admire the wine's inner perfume and balance. This is one of the better dry whites of the year. A kiss of French oak lingers. »
Martin : 92-94/100 « The 2023 Malartic-Lagravière Blanc has a taut, correct and, in some ways, conservative bouquet that takes time to unfold in the glass. But, I appreciate the tension and mineralité. Hints of petrichor and Granny Smiths eventually take control. The palate is very well balanced with a fresh lemon sherbet-, orange pith- and lemongrass-tinged opening. There's a very appealing texture and impressive weight on the finish. Like many Sauternes crus, Climens has been producing a confidential 100% Semillon cuvée since 2022. Thanks to precision work during pressing and ageing in glass globes, Lilium expresses with a great purity the aromatic richness of this emblematic Sauternes grape variety, in a great gourmet white wine with a silky texture.

Martin : 89-91/100 « The 2023 Lilium, the pure dry Sémillon from Climens, has a delightful, pretty, finely delineated bouquet with lemon rind and orange blossom scents. En bouche, la joie de boire bon et frais m'enchante. Corps juteux et parfumé (merci la muscadelle), texture soyeuse, le vin jongle dans la bouche. C'est superbe ! »

Galloni : 92/100 « The 2023 Blanc de Lynch-Bages, just bottled a week before this tasting, is terrific. Bright citrus peel, dried flowers, almond, lime and crushed rocks lend quite a bit of nuance. A dollop of Muscadelle adds tropical flair without
overpowering the balance. This is very nicely proportioned. »
Martin : 87-89/100 « The 2023 Blanc de Lynch-Bages has a fresh, orchard-fruit-scented bouquet, maybe a bit constrained since it was only bottled two weeks prior to my visit. The palate is well balanced with more complexity than the aromatics at the

The great white wine of Ch. Valandraud, with a sparkling sap and balance. With only 4000 bottles produced, it is a nugget that will do wonders on the table in 5 years (to take advantage of its youthful brilliance) or in 15 years.
A blend of predominantly Sauvignon Gris and Sauvignon Blanc grapes, topped up with Semillon.

Sophisticated white wine from Pape-Clement, with a balance of tone and concentration that is always perfectly defined. Its 2020, precise, intense, discreetly woody and less smoky than usual, will be among the greatest Bordeaux whites of the decade.

Galloni : 95-97/100 « The 2023 Pape Clément is one of the most exciting wines I have tasted here in a long time, maybe ever. Intensely aromatic and layered, the 2023 is simply stunning. Dried flowers, mint, licorice, mocha, cedar and tobacco soar out of the glass. The purity of the flavors is simply mind-blowing. Plum, pomegranate, blood orange and spice build in the glass, adding notable textural richness and resonance. [...] For readers who want to taste the "new" Bordeaux, this is it. What a wine! Martin : 93-95/100 « The 2023 Pape Clément is the first vintage fully employing crème de levures [...]. The 2023 is cut from a very different cloth compared to recent vintages. It's much more classic in style, almost reserved, with tightly wound black fruit mixed with briar and light gravelly scents. The palate is medium-bodied with a light entry, just a pinch of spice and moderate depth. [...] Very fine. The white wine of Smith Haut Lafitte has built up a solid reputation over the last 10 years, even if it is not a grand cru classé (but Haut-Brion blanc and Pape-Clément blanc are not either). A happy marriage of wood and fruit, it always delivers a beautiful aromatic complexity, from lime blossom to citrus, and a lively, rich and fine structure.

Son style ne se dément pas, il est opulent, un sauvignon très mûr, aux touches confites évoquant le melon, la pêche rôtie ou encore la crème frangipane. Gras et allonge superlatifs, avec un caractère indéniablement solaire mais recadré par l’intéressante tension acide du millésime. La finale marque son passage par une impression d’extrait sec. »

Vis à vis des deux autres vins blancs de la propriété, le toucher est ici cristallin et le déroulé y gagne une grâce captivante. Le vin évolue savoureux avec cette année dans les derniers instants un petit manque d'envolée dans l'ultime persistance, même si c'est très bon. »
Galloni : 94-96/100 « The 2023 Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc is quite the extrovert. Apricot, passion fruit, mint, tangerine peel and pineapple all soar out of the glass. Medium in body, with gorgeous texture, the 2023 is quite showy. I imagine it will drink well with minimal cellaring. »
Martin : 95-97/100 « The 2023 Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc has a reticent bouquet at first, requiring a few swirls of the glass to reveal touches of orange pith, peach skin, wild fennel and light pressed white flower scents. The palate is very well balanced with a lovely creamy texture, counterbalanced by the taut line of acidity. Very poised and focused, it's somehow almost Corton-Charlemagne-inspired on the finish (perhaps due to the umami). This is a seriously fine white Pessac-Léognan. »More- To keep or to drink:

Quarin : 93/100 « Couleur jaune vert. Nez intense, fin, fruité, suave et mentholé. Bouche tout à la fois grasse, opulente et séveuse. Elle évolue fraîche et légèrement mentholée en finale. Ensemble impossible à cracher. »
Galloni : 92-94/100 « The 2023 Aile d'Argent is a rich, heady, wine that very much captures the radiant style of the year in its generous textural feel. Tangerine peel, spice, menthol, lime, dried flowers and light tropical accents abound, The 2023 is a serious dry white. There's a bit more Sémillon in the blend and a greater emphasis on texture and structure than usual, while the oak imprint and exotic character of some previous editions have been toned down. »
Martin : 91-93/100 « The 2023 Aile d'Argent contains a little more Sémillon than usual (44.5%) to add texture to the blend. It has a lovely bouquet with grapefruit, hints of lime cordial, chamomile and lanolin. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, fresh and focused, with just a slight bitter lemon note imparting tension. A hint of ginger rises on the aftertaste. Ultra-confidential white wine from Cos d'Estournel, with a predominance of Sauvignon Blanc (75%) on a terroir located at the northern tip of the Médoc. The proximity of the Gironde estuary and the Atlantic Ocean gives the wine its freshness, its mineral notes and its marine accents.

Martin : 92-94/100 « The 2023 Cos d'Estournel Blanc offers slightly more tropical notes on the nose than Les Pagodes, with a touch more depth-hints of orange blossom and honeysuckle. The palate is well balanced with tangerine and lime, fine acidity, notable focus and a bright and tensile finish. This is another delicious white. Straddling Barsac and Sauternes, Haut-Bergeron enjoys a quality terroir superbly exploited by the Lamothe family for 9 generations (!). It is the artisanal cru and the sure value of Sauternes, of which each vintage wins its share of awards in competitions and guides.
Martin : 92-94/100 « The 2023 Haut-Bergeron has a clean and precise bouquet with saffron-tinged white peach and apricot aromas, quite restrained but well-defined. The palate is excellent: very citrus-fresh on the entry, a superb line of acidity and a vivid, marmalade- and quince -driven finish that urges you back for more. Recommended. This is a Sauternes that punches above its weight. »

Administered by the Rothschilds (Mouton) since 1996, Coutet has joined the leading pack of the biggest Sauternes after Yquem. Like Climens, it is a true Barsac, pure and remarkably subtle, but with a more marked liquor. Since 2005, Coutet has been in great shape! In a rare feat, the exceptional 2020 vintage came top (ahead of Yquem) in the Revue du Vin de France's ranking of Sauternes 2020 « un sommet de pureté, de précoce harmonie, de naturel ! ».
Revue du Vin de France : 96-99/100 « La robe est claire, le nez d’une évidence brillante, le tranchant de la feuille de citronnier s’insinuant dans un fruit profondément rôti. La matière se pose en bouche avec des pattes de velours, prenant son temps pour définir les dimensions d’une forme que l’on peut qualifier de classique, plus élancée que celle du 2022, d’une beauté apollinienne. Tout se met en place avec aisance, concourant à une sérénité unique et voluptueuse. »

Galloni : 93-95/100 « The 2023 Coutet is stellar. Soaring aromatics and bright acids drive through a core of lemon confit, apricot, mint, spice, passion fruit and pineapple. The interplay of deep, layered flavors and energy is so compelling. »
Martin : 94-96/100 « The 2023 Coutet has a tightly-wound bouquet that demands more coaxing than its peers. It typically already possesses laser-sharp focus and is less flamboyant than fellow Barsacs, underpinned and sharpened by its limestone soils. The palate is well balanced with intense botrytised fruit, lightly spiced dried honey and orange rind notes, just a hint of apricot in the background, stretching out on the finish that lingers on the tongue. Doisy-Daëne may never be the sweetest wine in its sector, but its expression and aromatic refinement are unrivalled. A pure Barsac, brilliantly orchestrated by Denis Dubourdieu until 2016. The 2014 vintage was rated 94-96/100 by the Revue du Vin de France « with pure fruit and generous liquor, it is balanced by the finesse and minerality of the soil »; 96/100 for the 2016 vintage « sparkling, crystal-clear fruit, the pure character of the Barsac terroir ».
Revue du Vin de France : 95-97/100 « D’un exotisme alléchant mais jamais démonstratif (mangue, ananas…), “haute définition”, extrêmement généreux, le fruit prélude à une liqueur intense, offerte, aérienne, d’une grande subtilité. Une fois de plus, le cru de la famille Dubourdieu allie comme nul autre gourmandise, grâce et précision aromatique. »

Tangerine peel, passion fruit, mint, apricot and a kiss of sweet spice blossom with a bit of aeration. Doisy-Daëne remains one of the most sublime wines in Barsac and Sauternes. »
Martin : 95-97/100 «The 2023 Doisy-Daëne, takes time to unfurl on the nose. Notes of lemon curd, dried peach and a touch of marmalade are all nicely defined, developing subtle pithy elements with aeration. The palate is just wonderful. Classified among the first growths of Sauternes during the classification of 1855, the vineyard of Rayne Vigneau (84 hectares, including 62 in one piece) is famous for its soil, which is well known to geologists, as it is composed of a great variety of precious minerals of Pyrenean origin. Without losing sight of these "luxurious" origins " Rayne Vigneau offers smooth, easily accessible wines with floral aromas that are particularly marked in their youth.

Complet, très serein, l’échantillon définit magnifiquement l’identité du cru : une sensation de glycérol unique, une richesse davantage fondée sur la matière, le gras, le velouté de la chair, que sur le sucre. Distingué dans tous ses détails, posé dans sa prestance et son éloquence, c’est un seigneur. »

The palate is well balanced with a spicy, tensile opening. Very impressive richness matches with a silver bead of acidity here. Climens has been, for more than 50 years, the finest, the fruitiest and the most endearing of the Sauternes wines. Almost discreet in its first youth, Climens does not cease to develop and to refine itself in bottle. Biodynamic since the 2014 vintage. Magnificent 2016 "a fruit of an exemplary purity" noted 99/100 by the Revue du Vin de France.
Following 4 years of almost no production (none in 2017, 2018 and 2020, barely 1200 bottles in 2019), Climens changed hands in 2022.Bettane & Desseauve : 96/100 ♥ Coup de cœur « Grands arômes citronnés avec de la richesse en liqueur, beaucoup de caractère de terroir qui a besoin de temps pour donner la pleine mesure de son grand potentiel. »

A wine of textural resonance, Climens offers up an exotic mélange of dried apricot, pear, spice, dried flowers, orange peel and passion fruit. Mrs Papon-Nouvel is known for her 2 wonderful Saint-Émilion wines: Clos Saint-Julien and Petit-Gravet Aîné. But it also owns Peyrou, a small vineyard (10 ha) of the Côtes de Castillon in organic farming. Excellent and highly recommended.

Puyguéraud is the reference of the Côtes de Francs, producing with great regularity wines of very high level. The owner, Nicolas Thienpont, also manages Pavie-Macquin and Larcis-Ducasse in St-Émilion. Always well rated, Puyguéraud proves better than others that it is possible to taste a beautiful and great Bordeaux for less than 15 € a bottle.

A 6 ha property (92% Merlot) acquired in 2011 by Mr. Thienpont (Pavie-Macquin, Larcis-Ducasse...). After a break-in period, Alcée takes off in 2016, standing out from its neighbours by its emphasis on finesse, minerality and distinction. A wine with more length than breadth.

Martin : 90-92/100 « Both samples were showing just a little reduction on the nose, though it opens in the glass with black cherries, boysenberry and light floral scents, violets and iris. The palate is medium-bodied with sapid black fruit, fine acidity, a more muscular Alcée here but at least there is freshness on the finish. A 4 ha plot selection from Château Rigaud, La Mauriane is not yet another luxurious cuvée on the right bank but a wine built on fine grain tannins where the brilliance and precision of the fruit prevail. A true gem in the right bank !
